Locum Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgeon – Dubuque, Iowa
(IMLC Accepted – LOQ must be in hand)

Assignment Overview

  • Dates Needed:

    • July 28, 8:00 AM – August 1, 5:00 PM

    • September 1, 8:00 AM – September 5, 5:00 PM

    • December 22, 8:00 AM - December 26, 5:00 PM

  • Ongoing Coverage: 1–2 weeks per month preferred

  • Schedule:

    • Mon–Fri: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

    • Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

    • Includes office, inpatient, and call coverage

  • Call: Required (includes weeknights and weekends)

    • Emergency surgeries included during call


Clinical Responsibilities

  • Adult patient population only

  • Daily Volumes:

    • Consults: 3–5/day

    • Inpatient Rounds: 2–5/day

  • Procedures Performed:

    • ~10–20 per month (~150–200/year)

  • Procedures Required:

    • Cardiac (open heart), thoracic (chest surgery)

    • Preferred (not required):

      • Vascular surgery

      • TAVR

      • Endarterectomy

      • Valve replacements/repairs

      • Thoracotomies

      • Chest tube placement


Support & Facility Info

  • NP assists with morning rounds and office post-op visits

  • NP helps manage hospital calls during office hours

  • EMR: Cerner

  • Facility Beds: 263

  • Trauma Level: III


Requirements

  • Board Status:

    • Board Certified or Truly Board Eligible (within 2 years)

    • Cardiothoracic or Cardiovascular Surgery

  • Certifications: BLS – Required

  • License:

    • Active Iowa License – Highly Preferred

    • IMLC – LOQ in hand required if not IA licensed
