Locums – Des Moines, Iowa | Urgent Need Neurointerventionalist Opportunity 

Clinical Role
Provide specialized neurointerventional coverage in a high-volume, stroke-focused hospital setting. This role centers on emergent stroke intervention, including thrombectomy procedures, with 24-hour call coverage and strong multidisciplinary support.

Start Dates:

  • April 13 – April 19, 2026
  • April 22 – April 26, 2026

Assignment Type: Locum Tenens (24-hour call blocks)


Position Highlights:

  • 24-hour call coverage (7:00 AM – 7:00 AM)
  • High-volume stroke center (~1,000 stroke patients annually)
  • Significant thrombectomy volume (~165 cases annually)
  • Strong support from neurology and interventional radiology teams
  • Hospital-based, no outpatient or telehealth responsibilities
  • IMLC accepted

Schedule & Coverage

  • 24-hour on-call coverage blocks
  • Continuous call with callback responsibilities
  • Schedule may vary based on provider availability

Clinical Details & Responsibilities

Setting: Inpatient Hospital (Stroke-Focused Care)

Patient Population: Adult

Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing 24-hour on-call neurointerventional coverage
  • Performing emergent mechanical thrombectomy procedures
  • Responding to stroke alerts and urgent callbacks
  • Managing inpatient neurovascular intervention cases
  • Performing image-guided vascular procedures
  • Collaborating with neurology and IR teams for coordinated stroke care
  • Ensuring timely, high-quality stroke interventions

Procedures:

  • Mechanical thrombectomy – required
  • Image-guided vascular interventions
  • Neurovascular emergency procedures

Support & Technology

Facility Details:

  • Hospital-based stroke program
  • 9 neurologists on staff
  • Dedicated interventional radiology support team

Technology:

  • EMR: Epic

Requirements

  • Fellowship trained in Interventional Radiology (IR) or Interventional Neuroradiology/Neurology (INR) – required
  • Must be able to perform thrombectomies independently – required
  • Active Iowa license Required
  • Active DEA – required
  • Active CSA – required

  • Established stroke program with multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Strong neurology and IR team support
  • Focus on acute stroke intervention and neurovascular care
