Availability
- October 14 (7:00 AM) – October 19 (7:00 AM)
- October 24 (7:00 AM) – November 1 (7:00 AM)
Orientation
- 10/13 (8a - 4p)
Schedule
- 10–14 days per month ongoing
- Day Coverage: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM (in-house)
- Night Coverage: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM (on-call, in-house)
Call Type
- In-house call required
- Response time expectation: 15 minutes
Requirements
License
- Active Michigan license required
Board Certification
- Board Certified required
- Neonatology Board Certification preferred (or Board Eligible)
Certifications
- NRP required
- PALS required
Skills / Procedures Required
- Intubation
- Chest tube placement
- Central line placement
- Paracentesis
- Lumbar punctures (spinal taps)
- Exchange transfusion
- Therapeutic hypothermia (cooling)
- Ventilator management (including oscillators and iNO)
Practice Details
Setting
- Level III NICU (non-surgical subspecialty unit)
Patient Volume
- ~10 patients per shift
Bed Capacity
- 21 NICU beds
EMR
- Cerner
Clinical Responsibilities
- NICU admissions
- Daily rounding on assigned patients
- Stabilization and management of critically ill neonates
- Management of:
- Respiratory Distress Syndrome
- Pulmonary Hypertension
- Pneumothorax
- Sepsis
- Seizures
- Very Low Birth Weight (VLBW) infants
- Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS)
- Stabilization of surgical cases for transfer
NICU Environment
- Established NICU since the 1970s
- Highly experienced and collaborative RN staff
- Respiratory Therapy support for:
- Conventional ventilators
- Oscillators
- iNO
- CPAP
- High-flow nasal cannula
- Modern facility (new hospital build as of 2019)
