Locum-to-Perm – Springfield, Massachusetts - Gastroenterology Opportunity

Clinical Role:

  • Referral Program: Know someone who might be a great fit? Ask about our generous referral bonuses.

  • Dates of Coverage: Starting mid-December 2025 and ongoing until a permanent physician is hired.

  • Practice Setting: Primarily inpatient coverage.

  • Call structure at MMC: approximately 1:4

  • Call schedule: Friday 4 p.m. – Friday 4 p.m.

  • Responsibilities include floor, ED, ICU, emergent consults, and endoscopies (as needed)

  • Beeper coverage overnight

  • Outpatient responsibilities TBD (confirmation expected soon)

  • Reason for Coverage: Physician retirement

  • Clinical Areas: Adult Gastroenterology, Hospital-based care, Endoscopy

  • Onsite Support:

  • Laboratory – Yes

  • X-Ray – Yes

  • Outpatient/Internal Medicine Requirement: None

  • Patient Volumes:

  • Hospital: 4–12 patients per day

  • Outpatient: TBD

  • Team Structure: 4 physicians in group

  • EMR: EPIC

  • Credentialing Timeline: Anticipated start mid-to-late December

  • EUS/ERCP: Not required

    Required Procedures:

    • Esophageal Dilatation / Manometry

    • Esophageal Manometry Interpretation

    • Small Bowel Biopsy

    • Lower GI Endoscopy

    • Sigmoidoscopy

    • Colonoscopy

    • Liver Biopsy

    Upper GI Endoscopy Procedures (Required):

    • With biopsy

    • With foreign body removal

    • With fulguration of bleeder (cautery or laser)

    • With injection or banding of varices

    • Diagnostic and therapeutic

    • With PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy)

    Qualifications:

    • Board Certified or Board Eligible (Board Certified preferred)

    • Active Massachusetts medical license (required)

    • BLS certification (required)

    • ERCP certification preferred but not required

    • No outpatient expectations
