Position Overview:
This locums GI Hospitalist role provides full inpatient coverage for a hospital in Lufkin, Texas while the permanent GI provider transitions out. The provider will perform standard GI procedures, manage consults, and handle inpatient rounds, including urgent cases from the ER or hospitalists. Anesthesia support is available for procedures, with conscious sedation preferred.

Daily Breakdown / Responsibilities:

• Rounding on up to 10 patients per day

• Procedures as needed: endoscopies, colonoscopies, and ERCP

• Cases include: abdominal pain, GI bleed, SBO, food bolus, ulceration, gastritis, and diagnostic evaluation of carcinoma (no treatment)

• Hospital admits patients

Facility Details:

• Practice Setting: Inpatient hospital

• Support Staff: Endoscopy-trained GI nursing staff

• EMR: Currently Paragon; switching to Epic later in 2026

Requirements:

• Board Certification in Gastroenterology – Highly preferred (Board Eligible accepted)

• Gastroenterology residency required

• Texas State License – Required

• ACLS – Required

• Clean malpractice – Highly preferred
