Position Overview

A community hospital in Queens is seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant (PA) to join its Inpatient Internal Medicine / Hospitalist team. This is a permanent, hospital-employed position providing care to a diverse patient population with acute and chronic medical conditions. Multiple full-time shift options are available, including day, evening, and night coverage.

The PA will work collaboratively with supervising physicians and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.

Clinical Responsibilities

Patient Assessment & Management

  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams on new admissions and existing patients

  • Formulate differential diagnoses and develop individualized treatment plans

  • Order and interpret labs, imaging (X-ray, CT, MRI), and other diagnostic studies

  • Prescribe medications and therapies per hospital protocols

  • Manage acute and chronic conditions commonly seen in inpatient medicine (e.g., pneumonia, heart failure, COPD exacerbations, sepsis, kidney injury, diabetes)

  • Perform minor procedures as privileged (venipuncture, arterial blood gases, nasogastric tube insertion, basic wound care)

Collaboration & Communication

  • Participate in daily rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings, and hand-off communications

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members regarding care plans and updates

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical records in the EMR

  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards

Discharge Planning

  • Assist with discharge coordination, medication reconciliation, patient education, and follow-up care arrangements

Professional Development

  • Engage in continuing education and CME activities

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental projects

Schedule Options

  • Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

  • Evening Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (+ 10% evening differential for eligible shifts)

  • Night Shift: 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM (+ shift differential)

  • Full-time (75 hours biweekly)

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited PA program

  • NCCPA certification and current, unrestricted NY State PA license

  • Valid DEA registration

  • 1–2 years of inpatient experience preferred (Internal Medicine or Hospital Medicine)

  • Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and critical thinking skills

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems

  • Ability to work independently under physician supervision in a fast-paced hospital environment

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: $76.97 – $94.17/hour depending on experience + shift differentials
