Locums - Ketchikan, Alaska - Emergency Medicine

Clinical Role:
An Emergency Medicine locums opportunity is available in Ketchikan, Alaska from June through December 2026. This is a single-coverage model in a scenic coastal community known for seasonal tourism, with higher summer volumes due to cruise traffic.

Coverage:

• June 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026

• 10–15 shifts per month needed

Shift Options:

• 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

• 6:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Practice Model:

• MD/DO single coverage

• No NP/PA support

• No scribe coverage

Emergency Department Overview:

• Annual volume: 8,220

• 15–20 patients per day (higher in summer months)

• 12% admission rate

• 3% transfer rate

• 10 exam rooms plus 3 hallway care spaces

• EMR: Epic

Backup Specialties Available:

• Anesthesiology

• Pediatrics

• Case Management

• ICU

• General Surgery

• Orthopedics

• Labor & Delivery

Credentialing & Licensing:

• Alaska license highly requested

• Licensing and Medicaid enrollment timelines are longer than most states

• Privileging timeline: 2–3 months with active AK license and DEA

Requirements:

• ABEM or AOBEM Board Certification only
  EM Residency Trained Required
