Locums – Omaha, Nebraska | Cardiothoracic Surgery Opportunity (IMLC Welcome)

Clinical Role

Join a high-acuity Level I Trauma Center providing comprehensive cardiothoracic surgical care. This is an excellent opportunity for a board-certified CT surgeon seeking consistent call coverage with strong OR support and an experienced care team.

Coverage Dates: June 14, 2026 – January 2, 2027 (ongoing coverage)
Schedule: 24-hour call (7:00 AM – 7:00 AM)
FTE: 1

High-level surgical environment with advanced cardiac and thoracic cases
Strong APP and surgical team support
Ongoing locum need with potential for consistent scheduling
IMLC candidates welcome

Clinical Details & Responsibilities

Setting: Inpatient, Level I Trauma Center
Responsibilities include:
- Hospital rounds on cardiothoracic surgery patients
- Inpatient and outpatient consults
- OR coverage for cardiac surgery and thoracic trauma

Procedures & Case Mix:

Standard thoracic surgery
Cardiac procedures including:
- CABG
- ECMO cannulation
Approximate cardiac volume: ~150 heart cases per year
No peripheral vascular coverage required (covered by vascular surgery team)

Support & Resources

APP coverage:
- Surgical PAs assist with operative call
- NPs provide weekend rounding support
- PA coverage available for endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH)
Dedicated CVOR anesthesia team (TEE proficient)
Experienced scrub techs, RNs, and CVOR staff
Occasional second PA support available

Patient Volume:

Admissions: ~1–4 per day
Call-back volume: Low

Technology:

EMR: Epic

Requirements

Board Certified in Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery
Active Nebraska license or IMLC (LOQ in hand at time of submission)
ACLS, BLS, and DEA highly preferred

Case Log Requirements:

Typically 100 cases in the past year (may consider 50 for emergency credentialing)
