Clinical Role
Join a high-acuity cardiovascular thoracic surgery locums opportunity at a Level I trauma center, providing comprehensive surgical care across the full continuum. This role is ideal for an experienced surgeon seeking ongoing, full-time coverage in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Position Highlights:

Schedule & Coverage
- Coverage Model: 24-hour call and/or clinic + OR + call (based on site needs)
- Schedule Preference: Full-time coverage strongly preferred
- Assignment Type: Ongoing blocks preferred
Clinical Details & Responsibilities
Setting: Acute Care Hospital – Level I Trauma Center
Patient Population: Adult
Volume:
- Admissions: ~70 per day
- Inpatient activity: 90–100 discharges per day
Responsibilities Include:
- Managing cardiothoracic surgery patients across pre-op, intra-op, and post-op phases
- Providing OR coverage for cardiac and thoracic procedures
- Conducting consults, daily rounding, and call coverage
- Managing urgent and emergent cardiac surgery cases
- Collaborating with ICU, cardiology, interventional cardiology, anesthesia, APPs, perfusionists, and OR teams
Procedures:
- CABG (on-pump and off-pump)
- Valve surgeries (AVR, MVR, TAVR)
- ECMO cannulation and management
- Emergent post-PCI interventions
- Type A aortic dissections
- Chest exploration and re-entry for postoperative bleeding
- Temporary mechanical circulatory support
Support & Technology
Support Staff:
- APP support including NPs and first assist coverage
- Dedicated cardiac surgery and ICU teams
- Full multidisciplinary support infrastructure
Technology:
- EMR: Cerner + Ingenious Med (iMed)
Requirements
- Fellowship trained in Cardiothoracic Surgery – required
- Active Arizona license preferred or IMLC accepted
- ACLS, BLS required
- DEA required
