Locums Critical Care NP/PA Opportunity – Roanoke, Virginia (Willing to License)

Availability

  • Start Date: September 21, 2026
  • Ongoing Coverage
  • Approximately 39 hours per week
  • Three-day stretches commonly scheduled

Requirements

Provider Type

  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP)
  • Physician Assistant (PA)

License

  • Willing to License

Experience

  • Cardiac Surgery ICU experience required
  • Surgical experience not required
  • Critical care experience strongly preferred

Schedule

Day Shift

  • 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Night Shift

  • 8:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Practice Details

  • Acute Care Hospital
  • Level I Trauma Center
  • 733-Bed Hospital
  • 12-Bed Cardiac Surgery ICU
  • Epic EMR

Patient Volume

  • 6–12 patients per day plus consults
  • Adult patient population

Support Model

  • 1–2 providers per shift
  • Collaborative team environment with attending physicians and APP colleagues

Clinical Responsibilities

Critical Care Management

Manage patients recovering from:

  • Aortic surgery
  • Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
  • Thoracic surgery
  • Valve surgery

Mechanical Circulatory Support

Work alongside physicians in the management of:

  • ECMO
  • Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (IABP)
  • Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD)
  • Impella
  • Right Ventricular Assist Devices (RVAD)

Diagnostic & Clinical Decision-Making

  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies
  • Develop and implement treatment plans
  • Provide timely interventions based on clinical assessment

Emergency Response

  • Respond to critical and emergent situations
  • Perform rapid patient assessment and stabilization

Procedures

Required/Preferred Skills

  • Central venous catheter placement
  • Arterial line insertion
  • Dialysis catheter placement
  • Chest tube management
  • Bronchoscopy

  • ACNP or PA with Cardiac Surgery ICU experience
  • Comfortable managing critically ill cardiothoracic surgery patients
  • Experience with advanced mechanical circulatory support devices
  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced ICU environment
  • Team-oriented and committed to clinical excellence
