Quick Facts for Candidate Screening

Availability Needed

• Start Date: September 1, 2026
• Contract Length: Ongoing
• Coverage Needs: 1–2 providers for 1–2 weeks per month

Schedule

• 7-on / 7-off schedule
• Day shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Night call included (primarily remote consults and transfers)
• Two providers scheduled during daytime coverage
• Physician serves as escalation/back-up for fellows and APPs

License & Certification Requirements

Required License

• Active Louisiana medical license
• IMLC accepted

Board Certification & Training

• ABIM Board Certified in Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology
• Fellowship trained in relevant specialty

Required Certifications

• ACLS

Credentialing Notes

• Temporary privileges available for early start
• Temporary privileges: 30–45 days to process
• Clean background required
• Full privileges require no pending cases

Call & Clinical Responsibilities

Call Type

• 2nd Call / Back-up
• Assigned patients
• Admissions required
• Phone consults: 2–3 per shift
• Rare need to return onsite overnight

Patient Population

• Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant patients, including:
  • Pre-transplant
  • LVAD
  • Post-transplant
  • Other high-acuity cardiac patients

Patient Volume

• 15–20 patients per shift
• ~30 total patients on service (locum covers entire service during block)

Teaching

• Inpatient academic setting
• Teaching responsibilities for fellows, residents, and students

• 30-bed hospital
• Stroke certified
• Trauma Level II
• EMR: Epic
• Support Staff:
  • Five APPs
  • Fellows
  • Two attending physicians during daytime coverage

Practice Overview

• Inpatient-only (no outpatient clinic duties)
• Rounding 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (sometimes until 7:00 PM)
• 24/7 call coverage during 7-day block
• Providers handle admissions remotely via transfer center
• Opportunity to work in an academic, team-oriented environment

Ideal Candidate

• ABIM Board Certified in Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology
• Fellowship trained
• Active Louisiana license or IMLC eligible
• ACLS certified
• Comfortable with high-acuity inpatient service and remote call escalation
• Flexible to work 7-day inpatient blocks with teaching responsibilities
