Chief of Cardiac Surgery – Midland, Michigan (Faculty Position)

Position Overview

  • Role: Inaugural Chief of Health Cardiac Surgery Program
  • Faculty Appointment: University of Michigan Medical School
  • Practice Sites:  Medical Center Midland & Saginaw
  • Call Schedule: 1:3 with APP first call
  • Clinical Scope:
    • 600+ annual open-heart and structural heart procedures across both sites
    • 320+ open cases, 200+ TAVR procedures
    • Expansion of transcatheter mitral & tricuspid programs
  • Leadership: Oversee and grow cardiac surgery program, lead a multidisciplinary team, and drive program innovation

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert adult cardiac surgery care
  • Lead program development, strategic planning, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with cardiologists, APPs, and support staff across two campuses
  • Participate in academic and clinical initiatives through University of Michigan Medical School

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent)
  • Board certified by ABTS or equivalent: AOA, RCPSC, RCP, RCS
  • Completion of ACGME-accredited cardiothoracic surgery residency
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in adult cardiac surgery
  • Proven track record in high-quality outcomes and program leadership
  • Full, unrestricted Michigan medical license (or eligibility to obtain)

Practice Details

  • Heart & Vascular Center at Medical Center in Midland
  • Collaborative team: 36 cardiovascular providers system-wide (28 in Midland)
  • APPs serve as first call
  • Hospital-employed position
  • Strong cardiovascular program with >13 years of regional service
  • Conveniently located near both Midland and Saginaw campuses
