  • Schedule: 24-hour call (7:00 AM – 7:00 AM)
  • In-House Call: Not required
  • Response Time: Must be onsite within 20 minutes
  • Trauma Level II

Practice Setting
  • Hospital-based urology coverage
  • Call-only model with rounding responsibilities

Call Details
  • Average Calls per Night: 2–4
  • Expected Call-Ins: 1–2 per night
  • Patients per Shift: Approximately 1–5
  • Average Inpatient Call Volume (24 hrs): 2–5 patients
  • Average Onsite Time: 2–4 hours per day (rounding + call-backs)

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Provide 24-hour call coverage for urology service
  • Perform rounding on new admissions and active inpatients
  • Respond to:
    • ED consults
    • Transfers and call inquiries
  • Common procedures and cases include:
    • Kidney stones
    • Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) consults
    • Ureteral stent placement
    • Hematuria management
    • Difficult catheter placements

Documentation Requirements
  • Must document all call-back activity with supporting notes
  • Include specific reason for call-back on timesheets
  • Documentation must be sufficient for audit validation
  • Telephone calls and chart reviews do not count as onsite call-back

Additional Expectations
  • Physicians are not required to remain onsite while on call
  • Must return onsite for patient care when called in
  • Responsible for inpatient rounding and discharges as needed

Requirements
  • Board Certified Urology – Required
  • Active Michigan License – Required
  • Fellowship Preferred
  • EMR: Athena and Cerner
  • Ability to meet 20-minute response time – Required
