Clinical Role

Join an established Cardiothoracic Surgery team in Flagstaff, Arizona, providing advanced practice support for adult and geriatric cardiac surgery patients. This locums opportunity offers inpatient CVICU and step-down coverage, surgical support, and weeknight beeper call responsibilities within a collaborative hospital environment.

Assignment Details

Orientation:

  • August 10, 2026
  • 8-hour orientation day

Coverage Dates:

  • August 11, 2026
  • August 12, 2026
  • August 13, 2026

Schedule:

  • 7:00 AM–3:00 PM clinical coverage
  • Weeknight beeper call:
    • 3:00 PM–7:00 AM

Coverage Needed:

  • Approximately 4 days per month
  • 7:00 AM–3:00 PM coverage plus overnight call

Clinical Details & Responsibilities

Practice Setting:

  • Hospital

Department:

  • Cardiothoracic Surgery

Facility Details:

  • 199-bed hospital

Patient Volume:

  • Approximately 10–15 CVICU/step-down patients per day
  • Approximately 1–2 surgeries per day

Patient Population:

  • Adult and geriatric patients

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provide cardiothoracic surgery APP coverage
  • Manage CVICU and step-down patients
  • Assist with cardiothoracic surgical procedures
  • Participate in postoperative patient management
  • Perform required bedside procedures, including:
    • Temporary pacemaker removal
    • Chest tube removal
    • IABP removal
    • Arterial line placement
  • Provide weeknight beeper call coverage
  • Collaborate with cardiothoracic surgeon and hospital teams
  • Document patient care using Cerner

Support & Technology

EMR System:

  • Cerner

Support Staff:

  • Cardiothoracic Surgeon

Requirements

NP/PA Requirements:

  • Board Certified NP/PA required
  • Active Arizona License required
  • DEA required
  • Minimum 3 years of recent Cardiothoracic Surgery experience required
  • Proficiency with EVH (Endoscopic Vein Harvesting) required
  • ACLS required
  • BLS required

Physician Assistant Requirements:

  • Graduate from a university program approved by NCCPA required
  • Certified or certification eligible by NCCPA required
  • Eligible for Physician Assistant licensure in Arizona required
  • ACLS and BLS through American Heart Association required

Nurse Practitioner Requirements:

  • Graduate from an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program required
  • Completion of RN/NP First Assistant Program required
  • Current unrestricted Arizona APRN license required
  • Medical Surgical or NP ANCC/AANP Certification required
  • ACLS and BLS through American Heart Association required

Credentialing
