Clinical Role

Join a freestanding Emergency Department in Independence, Missouri, providing Emergency Medicine coverage in a collaborative setting with Advanced Practice Provider support. This ongoing locums opportunity offers 12-hour shifts, a lower-acuity patient population, and the opportunity to work within a health system anchored by a Level II Trauma Center.

Assignment Details

Start Date:

  • September 2026

Assignment Length:

  • Ongoing

Schedule:

  • 12-hour shifts
  • AM and PM coverage needed

Physician Shift Times:

  • 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
  • 7:00 PM–7:00 AM

Orientation:

  • One-day orientation
  • One to two days of shadowing

Clinical Details & Responsibilities

Practice Setting:

  • Freestanding Emergency Department

Facility Details:

  • 10 Emergency Department rooms
  • 1 triage space
  • Main health system includes a Level II Trauma Center
  • Freestanding ED is not a Trauma Center

Patient Volume:

  • Approximately 1.6 patients per hour for the department
  • Admission rate of 5% or less

Patient Population:

  • Primarily low-acuity patients
  • Occasional higher-acuity walk-in patients

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and treat Emergency Department patients
  • Perform standard Emergency Medicine procedures
  • Stabilize and transfer patients requiring higher levels of care when appropriate
  • Collaborate with Advanced Practice Providers and nursing staff
  • Document patient care according to hospital standards

Support & Technology

Support Staff:

  • APP support during physician coverage
  • APP triage for lower-acuity patients
  • Standard Emergency Department nursing and ancillary staff

Requirements

  • Board Certified in Emergency Medicine required
  • Emergency Medicine Residency trained required
  • New graduates accepted if Emergency Medicine Board eligible/boarded
