Clinical Role

Join a high-volume Emergency Medicine team in Independence, Missouri, providing coverage across a Level II Trauma Center and affiliated Freestanding Emergency Departments. This locums opportunity offers flexible scheduling, a diverse trauma and medical patient population, and the opportunity to work within a comprehensive emergency care system.

Assignment Details

Start Date:

  • September 2026

Assignment Length:

  • Three months

Coverage Needed:

  • Equivalent of 5–7 FTEs

Schedule:

  • Providers must be flexible to work:
    • Days
    • Nights
    • Weekends

Shift Details (Physician Only):

  • 6:00 AM–4:00 PM
  • 9:00 AM–7:00 PM
  • 12:00 PM–10:00 PM
  • 3:00 PM–1:00 AM
  • 7:00 PM–5:00 AM
  • 9:00 PM–7:00 AM

Additional Coverage Details:

  • Preference for providers open to working at main hospital and affiliated FSER locations
  • Main hospital may consider shifts shorter than 12 hours
  • Affiliated FSED locations require 12-hour shifts

Clinical Details & Responsibilities

Practice Setting:

  • Hospital Emergency Department
  • Freestanding Emergency Departments

Facility Details:

  • Level II Trauma Center

Patient Volume:

  • Average ED census: approximately 170 patients
  • Annual ED admission rate: approximately 24%

Patient Population:

  • All Emergency Medicine patient populations

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and manage Emergency Department patients
  • Perform all standard Emergency Medicine procedures
  • Manage trauma and acute medical conditions
  • Stabilize critically ill patients
  • Coordinate transfers when specialty services are required
  • Collaborate with physicians, APPs, nursing staff, and specialty teams
  • Document patient care according to department standards

Common Case Types

  • Trauma (primarily blunt trauma)
  • Broad mix of Emergency Medicine presentations
  • High-acuity medical patients
  • Surgical and specialty emergencies

Specialty Support & Transfers

Transfers include:

  • Plastics/hand (limited coverage)
  • Neuro-interventional radiology
  • Pediatrics

Technology & Support

Support Services:

  • Emergency Medicine physicians per shift vary based on volume
  • Comprehensive ED support staff

Robotic Technology:

  • Neurology
  • Psychiatric services

Requirements

  • Board Certified Emergency Medicine (ABEM) required
  • Emergency Medicine Residency trained required
  • ATLS required (one-time completion during career accepted)
  • ACLS required
  • PALS required

Credentialing
