Overview

RecruitWell is partnering with a leading South Florida health system to hire an experienced Open Heart Physician Assistant for its cardiothoracic surgery team. This is a high?impact surgical APP role with broad autonomy across the continuum of care, working directly with cardiothoracic surgeons in the OR, ICU, and clinic.
Call will vary until the service is fully staffed, with an expectation of approximately weekly call during that period. Primary site in Boca Raton, with occasional coverage at their other site in Boynton Beach depending on surgeon assignment and case volume.

Position Highlights

Join a busy, well?established cardiothoracic surgery service with strong surgical volumes.
First assist on open heart and related cardiothoracic cases, including vein harvesting.
Mix of OR, inpatient rounding, consults, and outpatient clinic.
Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and a multidisciplinary team focused on excellent outcomes.
Opportunity to serve as a clinical resource, mentor, and preceptor for APP students.

Key Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive pre?operative histories and physicals; order and interpret labs and diagnostics; develop and update plans of care.

First assist in surgery and perform surgical procedures under direct supervision, including vein harvesting, wound closure, and use of specialized cardiac surgery equipment.

Provide post?operative care: dressings, skin closure systems, durable medical equipment, transfers to recovery, and post?op orders and procedures.
Round on inpatients, manage consults, dictate admission and discharge summaries, and facilitate admissions, transfers, and discharges.
Staff outpatient clinics, perform procedures, and educate patients and families on diagnoses, surgical options, risks, and post?operative expectations.
Share office, ER, and surgical call (including weeknights and weekends), with frequency expected to be weekly until the team is fully staffed.
Maintain timely documentation, medical staff privileges, and required certifications, and participate in quality and performance improvement activities.

Requirements

Master’s degree as a Physician Assistant.
Current national PA certification and active (or eligible) Florida PA license.
Minimum 3-5 years of Advanced Practice Provider experience, with specific experience in cardiothoracic surgery and vein harvesting.
Current BLS and ACLS; active DEA registration.
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing, and ancillary staff.
Comfort with high?acuity patients and fast?paced surgical environments.
