License & Certification Requirements

• Specialty: Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)
• Board Certification: Required (active verification required)
• State License: Active Virginia license required
• Minimum Experience: Level I Trauma experience required

Schedule

• Shift Lengths:
  • Primarily 8-hour and 10-hour shifts
  • 16-hour and 24-hour shifts may be available based on team needs
• Call/Extended Coverage: May include extended shifts as needed

Practice Details

• Fast-paced Level I Trauma anesthesia environment
• Coverage across 3 facilities:
  • 1 Level I Trauma Center
  • 2 Community Hospitals
• Large anesthesia team:
  • 30+ Anesthesiologists
  • 70+ CRNAs
• Practice Model: 100% medically directed care team model (1:4)
• Hospital Size: Approximately 700 beds
• EMR: Cerner

Patient Population

• Adult patients
• Limited pediatric cases (locums not expected to cover pediatrics)
• No cardiac cases expected

Clinical Responsibilities & Procedures

• CRNAs administer their own anesthetic medications
• Procedures include:
  • Epidurals
  • Spinals
  • Arterial lines
  • Lumbar epidural catheters
  • Spinal anesthesia
  • Some obstetric anesthesia
  • Some trauma cases, primarily outpatient surgery
• Regional anesthesia:
  • No brachial plexus blocks or other regional anesthesia blocks

Required Experience & Case Mix

Experience with:

• Level I Trauma cases
• Large vascular surgery
• Neurosurgery
• High-risk OB/GYN
• Orthopedics
• General surgery
• Thoracic surgery

Additional Practice Information

• Must be comfortable working within a medically directed CRNA care model (1:4)
