Locums - Charlottesville, Virginia | OB Hospitalist Opening

Clinical Role

Provide full-scope inpatient OB/GYN hospitalist coverage, including deliveries, surgical management of OB/GYN emergencies, and hospital-based call while the practice recruits a permanent physician.

Assignment Details

Coverage Dates:

• October 16, 7:00 AM–October 17, 2026, 7:00 AM
• October 17, 7:00 AM–October 18, 2026, 7:00 AM
• October 18, 7:00 AM–October 29, 2026, 7:00 AM
• October 20, 7:00 AM–October 23, 2026, 8:00 PM
• November 25, 7:00 AM–November 26, 2026, 7:00 AM
• November 27, 7:00 AM–November 28, 2026, 7:00 AM
• December 31, 2026, 7:00 AM–January 1, 2027, 9:00 AM

Schedule & Call:

• In-house 24-hour call, typically 7:00 AM–7:00 AM
• PRN/variable monthly coverage
• Preference for full-week or consecutive-day availability
• Once-monthly availability considered
• Potential outpatient coverage Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
• Approximately 2–3 weekend callbacks and 2 weekend admissions
• Approximately 20 deliveries per month, with volume potentially increasing to 40+
• Unassigned ED call coverage may be required

Clinical Responsibilities

• Vaginal and cesarean deliveries
• Circumcision
• Hysteroscopy
• D&C with or without suction
• Surgical management of missed/incomplete abortion
• Hysterectomy and ovarian cystectomy
• Emergent GYN cases as needed
• Established OB/GYN patients and occasional unassigned ED patients

Support & Setting

• Level II NICU
• 1 L&D OR and 4 main ORs
• RN support on L&D
• CNM coverage may be available during longer assignments; physician provides full call when CNM is unavailable
• Office nursing, sonographer, and administrative support
• Epic EMR

Requirements

• Board Certified OB/GYN with online verification – Required
• Active Virginia medical license – Required
• Virginia DEA – Required or intent to acquire/transfer
• Full-scope OB/GYN experience – Required
• Local candidates given first consideration
