Internal Medicine - Hematology and Oncology Physician Opportunity - Las Cruces, NM
Position Overview
Memorial Medical Center is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Internal Medicine - Hematology and Oncology Physician for locum tenens coverage. This is an ongoing opportunity starting ASAP with scheduled clinical hours plus call responsibilities. The position is based at a Joint Commission on Cancer (COC) accredited Cancer Center with an 18-bed chemotherapy suite, dedicated pharmacists, and access to clinical trials.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care and Clinical Hours:
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday
Approximately 17 patient encounters per shift (1 hour for new patients, 20-minute follow-ups)
Approximately 2 phone consultations per shift
Call Coverage:
Weekend call: 24-hour call shifts
Weekday night call: Shared with other provider(s)
Call response time: 20 minutes
Call ratio: 1 in 2
Call consists of questions from RN regarding patients calling in with questions, patients receiving chemotherapy, and minimal consults from the ED
Collaborative Responsibilities:
Participate in weekly tumor boards
Access to clinical trials (Phase 2 and Phase 3)
Work with dedicated pharmacists for educational chemotherapy starts
Collaborate with radiation oncology housed under the same roof
Support Team:
1 Medical Assistant
Several Registered Nurses
1 PA/NP

Candidate Requirements
Board Certification/Eligibility:
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine - Hematology and Oncology
Licensing and Certifications:
Current medical license (no specific state requirement listed)
BLS certification required
Fellowship in Hematology and Oncology preferred
Privileges and Credentialing:
Hospital privileges required
Temporary privileges not available; estimated credentialing time: 60 days
Vendor responsible for obtaining background check and drug screen
Medical Staff Services/CVO will conduct separate credentialing reviews

Malpractice insurance provided by vendor

Available Dates for 2026: September 21st, 28th; October 5th, 26th; November 2nd, 23rd, 30th; December 21st, 28th
Many dates available each month in 2027 with potential for full-time coverage at 5 days/week plus weekend call
