Internal Medicine - Gastroenterology Physician Opportunity - Tyler, TX
Position Overview
RecruitWell is seeking a locum tenens Internal Medicine - Gastroenterology physician for UT Health Tyler to provide short-term coverage due to a vacancy and increased endoscopy demand. The departing provider created a vacuum of approximately 224 scopes per month. This locum position will help bridge the gap until two additional providers join the Gastroenterology team in September 2026. The role involves performing scheduled colonoscopies Monday through Friday, conducting inpatient consultations, and managing complex GI patients in both clinical and GI lab settings.
Key Responsibilities
Perform scheduled colonoscopies on a Monday-Friday basis
Visit inpatient consults from the previous night and manage follow-up care as needed
Provide complex GI patient care in both clinic and GI lab settings
Conduct pre- and post-operative patient workups in collaboration with midlevel providers
Manage 4-6 patient admissions during shifts
Respond to beeper calls with appropriate response time
Perform hands-on procedures comprising 10-15% of duties
Round on patients both in inpatient and outpatient settings
Candidate Requirements
Board Certification: Required - Certified status in Gastroenterology
Medical License: Active Texas medical license required
Fellowship: Required - Fellowship training in Gastroenterology
Certifications Required:
ABLS (Advanced Burn Life Support)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support)
BLS (Basic Life Support)
Experience: Hands-on gastroenterology experience with ability to manage complex GI cases
Call Availability: Must be responsive to call with a 4-6 call ratio
