Physician Assistant - Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery Locum Tenens Opportunity - Spokane, WA
Position Overview
MultiCare Health System is seeking a Physician Assistant specializing in Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery for a locum tenens assignment at Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane, WA. This is a scheduled clinical hours plus call position covering a vacancy in a long-term permanent search. The assignment begins January 11, 2027, and is ongoing with rotating block schedules throughout the year.
Assignment Details:
January 11, 7am through February 1, 7am
February 8, 7am through March 1, 7am
March 8, 7am through March 29, 7am
April 5, 7am through April 30, 7am
May 10, 7am through May 31, 7am
June 7, 7am through June 30, 7am
Schedule:
Regular Hours: 7am-5pm
Call: 5pm-7am
Weekend Call: Friday 5pm-Monday 7am
Call Rotation: Every third day during the week; every fourth weekend
Practice Setting: 4 Surgeon, 4 PA practice. Inpatient setting with work in OR, ICU, and possible step-down patient care. No clinic responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Morning rounds including daily progress notes
Medication management and ordering appropriate labs and studies
Consult management
History and physical examinations
Discharge patients and prepare discharge summaries
Chest tube management and removal
Attend multidisciplinary rounds when on call
First assist in all procedures
Endoscopic vein and radial harvesting using Maquet System (Hemopro 2 Vasoview)
Prepare harvested conduit
Place appropriate post-operative orders
Close sternotomy per surgeon preference
Surgical Procedures Performed:
Robotic Lobectomy and Thymectomy using the Davinci Xi Robot
Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
Aortic Valve Replacement/TAVR procedures
Mitral Valve Repair and Replacement
Thoracotomy and VATS procedures
Left Ventricular Assist Device Implantation
Aortic Dissection Repair
ECMO
Call Coverage Responsibilities:
Weekday call includes: finishing late cases, taking calls from the CCU, and returning to the hospital for emergency cases
Weekend call includes: rounding with the call surgeon, progress notes, chest tube management, discharging patients, receiving calls from CCU, and availability for emergency cases
Call response time required: 30 minutes
Candidate Requirements
Board Certification: Required - Eligible minimum
License: Washington state license or IMLC license required
BLS Certification: Required (Red Cross or AHA)
Experience: Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery specialty required
Ability to cover all shifts as outlined in the assignment schedule
Must be able to work 1 in 3 call rotation during weekdays and weekends
Additional Requirements:
Current MultiCare permanent providers are NOT eligible for this locums contract
Malpractice insurance requirement: 2/4 for PAs
