Orthopaedic Surgery Physician Opportunity - Hancock, MI
Position Overview
UP Health System Portage is seeking a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon to provide call coverage in our ASC verified Level III Trauma Facility. This is a locum tenens call-only position ideally suited for a surgeon skilled in total joints and general orthopaedics. When on call, you will only come in if the Emergency Department requests a consult. This assignment features efficient, flexible OR with block time assignments and typically involves bread and butter cases, with sick or complicated patients being transferred.
Key Responsibilities
Provide Emergency Department call coverage on a rotating basis
Evaluate and treat orthopaedic trauma and emergency cases including fractures and sports injuries
Perform surgical procedures in an efficient OR setting with assigned block time
Respond to beeper calls within 20 minutes when on call
Collaborate with orthopaedic PAs and full surgical staff
Utilize completely digital radiology department for case management
No spine cases
Candidate Requirements
Active board certification with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) - ABOS certification only, NBPAS not accepted
Active Michigan medical license
Michigan Controlled Drug Substance (CDS) registration
Michigan DEA registration
Hospital privileges required; temporary privileges available
Expertise in total joint replacement and general orthopaedics
Willingness to participate in on-site orientation on Wednesday, November 27, 2026
