Locums – Boston, Massachusetts | Surgical Critical Care Physician Assistant Opportunity

Clinical Role

• Start Date: October 19, 2026
• Job Duration: 13 weeks
• Surgical Critical Care Physician Assistant coverage for maternity leave
• 2-3 night shifts per week
• Adult and geriatric patient population
• Approximately 15-25 patients per shift
• Hospital-based position

Assignment Details

• Schedule: Monday-Sunday availability; 2-3 shifts per week
• Shift: 6:30 pm-7:00 am
• Responsibilities: Primarily managing postoperative floor patients coming from step-down, OR, or ICU
• May complete H&Ps for patients transferred from outside hospitals
• May serve as first responder until the fellow arrives
• Thoracic Surgery Skills: Chest tube, Blake drain and pigtail management; ABG, NGT, and G/J feeding tube experience helpful
• Patient Volume: Approximately 15-25 patients per shift; 25 is typically the maximum
• Coverage: PA works independently overnight with a fellow available as a resource and to assist during higher-volume periods
• Fellow also covers the ER, rounds, and consults
• Code team available for emergencies
• EMR: Epic
• Requirements: NCCPA certification
• ACLS and BLS required
• DEA required
• Minimum 1 year of experience required
• Must have active Massachusetts licensure; licensing candidates will not be considered
• Credentialing: Approximately 90 days; temporary privileges may be considered
