Locums – Minneapolis, Minnesota, OB/GYN Hospitalist Job (IMLC Accepted)

Start Date & Duration:

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Duration: Ongoing

Coverage & Schedule:

  • 3-day shifts
  • 24-hour hospital in-house call: 7:00 a.m.–7:00 a.m.
  • 12-hour shifts also available if preferred (½ of the 24-hour rate)
  • Float Pool coverage

Patient Volume & Setting:

  • 11–12 deliveries per day
  • Level II nursery
  • Predominantly high-risk patient population
  • More than 90% of the Maternal Placental Program (MPP) census requires MFM involvement or management
  • 24/7 access to Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists
  • Role includes coverage for undoctored or unassigned OB patients

Department Description:

  • OB Hospitalist providers must be able to manage high-risk pregnancies
  • MFM is available in-house during the day and on call at night
  • The OB Hospitalist primarily covers the MFM service and its patients, while also providing coverage for urgent OB needs and emergencies on the unit
  • OB Hospitalists typically assist other OB providers with C-sections and other obstetrical procedures
  • OB Hospitalists are expected to co-manage patients with MFM specialists and provide obstetric coverage, including labor and delivery care
  • Another OBGYN is always in-house covering the clinic service; OB Hospitalists and clinic OBGYN providers rely on each other for support and assistance

High-Acuity & ECMO Coverage:

  • Pregnant and postpartum patients requiring ECMO-level care are rare
  • When these cases occur, they are primarily managed by MFM and ICU teams
  • ECMO patients are co-managed by MFM physicians and ICU providers, who serve as the primary decision-makers for these highly complex cases
  • CVICU deliveries are generally performed by MFM physicians
  • ICU deliveries are typically managed by OB Hospitalists/Generalists with support from MFM and ICU teams
  • The facility is not aware of any procedures, patient populations, or acuity levels that previous locum providers have declined due to clinical complexity

Support & Systems:

  • 24/7 access to Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists
  • Documentation System: Epic
  • Technology: Obix for electronic fetal monitoring

Requirements:

  • Must have Trauma I or II experience
  • Board Certification: OB/GYN
  • Certifications: BLS
  • Minnesota license highly preferred
  • If no Minnesota license, IMLC is required
  • Credentialing timeframe: 90–120 days
