Locums – Hershey, Pennsylvania, Neonatology NP/PA Job

Position Overview

• Seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) for locum coverage in a Level IV, 56-bed NICU with very high-acuity patients.

• APPs work collaboratively with physicians and oversee the daily care of newborns as the primary provider.

• Minimum commitment of 6 shifts per month.

• Providers must be able to block their availability and work grouped shifts.

• Evening, night, and weekend availability is a priority. Providers available exclusively for day shifts will not be considered.

• Overtime requires approval from the Practice Administrator.

• Lunch is not included in worked hours. Providers must swipe out for lunch and swipe back in afterward.

• Patient Volume: Approximately 10 patients per shift

• Patient Assignment: Assigned patients

• Support Staff:

  • 20–22 RNs

  • 2–3 NPs/PAs

  • 1 office staff member

Schedule & Shift Options

Weekdays (Monday–Friday)

• Day: 7:00 AM–5:00 PM

• Evening/Night: 4:00 PM–8:00 AM

Weekends (Saturday–Sunday)

• Day: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM

• Evening/Night: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM

Additional Scheduling Details

• 24-hour shifts may be accommodated any day of the week.

• Typical staffing:

  • Days: 5–6 APPs per shift

  • Evenings, nights, and weekends: Approximately 3 APPs per shift

Clinical Responsibilities & Required Skills

• PICC line placement
• UVC line placement
• UAC line placement
• Chest tube placement
• Lumbar punctures
• Intubations
• Must be able to participate in both ground and air transport.

Licensure & Required Qualifications

• Board-certified Physician Assistant in Neonatology or Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

• Active Pennsylvania License

• Compact License accepted

• Required certifications:

  • BLS

  • PALS

  • NRP

Orientation & Training

Clinical Orientation

• 3 full weekday day shifts

• 2 evening/night shifts

• 2 weekend shifts

• APPs will be paired with an established APP for shadowing and orientation.

• Providers will receive a picture ID, Cerner access, and access to the scrub machine.

Transport Orientation

• Two 1-hour online training courses, to be completed before the first shift

• One 45-minute in-person training session at the Life Lion hangar, scheduled after arrival

EMR Training

• A 4-hour, 45-minute online EMR training must be completed before the first shift.
